So my good friend and neighbor Scott has started a new blog called There's Treasure Everywhere. It's a place where multiple contributors post about hints of beauty and spirituality that we find in everyday things like music, movies, books, poetry, etc.
So, today I wrote my first post over there. It's about a children's record I used to listen to when I was a kid, and the new meaning it has for me now as an adult. Check it out.
:)
This song matches my mood.
Going to see these guys tomorrow night.
Here's a clip of them performing semi-live on jimmy kimmel...backwards.
Yeah, you heard me. Watch it.
I showed this song to my boyfriend. He's now in love. I officially found him his new favorite song!
Your Muse video of the day: The Small Print.
I love this performance from Earls Court in 2004. He even throws his guitar into the crowd at the end. I absolutely love how into the song Matt is in this performance. Incredible!
I finally got around to buying this CD yesterday. I'm glad I did.
Great Northern is an indie band from Los Angeles, CA comprised of two girls and two guys. This is how they describe themselves:
Great Northern: The name evokes a feeling of a place and time in which . . . to dream, perhaps, to get away from it all, or away from one’s self. It’s late afternoon, strolling into night. There’s a slight breeze – but you’re warm in your coat, or bundled in cotton as you gaze out the window when suddenly.......... CRASH CRASH CRASH.... BOOM BOOM BOOM... BING BANG BONG BIFF...... xo......GN
The single, Home:
Muse DVD of Wembley and Parc des Prince scheduled for before Christmas this year.
And from MuseLive:
Moreover, in an interview given last May to Rock Mag and published in this month's issue, Matthew confirmed that he has begun to work on a new album and new songs, some more in line with electronic or "dance" music and others more with classical or symphonic music (the band is thinking of hiring an orchestra for some of them).
Yet, these new songs will probably not be played live during this tour, since the band wishes to keep them all fresh and new. Matthew also revealed that the next album should be produced by the band itself, in order to have more freedom.
At a festival in Luxembourg, Muse's setlist included Microcuts and UNINTENDED!
The band hasn't played Unintended in about 6 years, so fans were incredibly surprised and ecstatic!
Here's the youtube of it:
So I've been checking out the Mexican Indie scene, since I'm going to Mexico next week. I'm looking for things to buy while there.
I came across some good stuff.
First off, Kinky, which I already own, has done a very well fitting cover of "Mexican Radio" by Wall of Voodoo. You'll have to go to their myspace for this, as I haven't found it anywhere else. It really is a *great* cover. I need to own it.
Austin TV is an instrumental band who list their influences as: Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service, Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Devo, Sonic Youth, Yo la tengo, The Cure, The Mars Volta, Weezer, The Faint, Minus the bear, Low, The Dresden Dolls, etc.
I already knew about Los Bunkers, but they deserve a mention when talking about Mexican Indie. Especially listen to "Llueve Sobra La Ciudad."
The Bjork-esque Porter delivers an interesting performance.
Los Angeles based Chana sounds like the Gorillaz meet Julieta Venegas. Icaro is my favorite song. While we're on Los Angeles, check out Volumen Cero. Good stuff.
Back to Mexico, Zoe is wonderful. Check out "No Me Destruyas." Division Minuscula delivers with an album entitled "Defecto Perfecto." Babasonicos are also very good. And Los Liquits have a catchy song in Te Comes Lo Que Dices.
Honorable mentions go to Finde for great album art but emoish vocals, Fobia, A Letter For, the electro-pop Maria Daniela y Su Sonido Lasser, electronica band Sonido Lassar Drakar, and pop-punk band Pxndx.
As a bonus, some videos:
I think that's a pretty complete list, and I doubt anyone who's likely to read this will know anything about Mexican Indie, but if you have something to add, please tell me!
